Living in Eagle Ridge

Eagle Ridge is South County's luxury enclave — a gated, master-planned community west of Santa Teresa Boulevard in Gilroy, built around the Eagle Ridge Golf Club. The neighborhood is split into two sections: the original gated Eagle Ridge proper (with 24/7 security guard) and the adjacent Glen Loma Ranch master-planned community (Mediterranean and Craftsman homes from the 2020s, still under construction). Eagle Ridge homes are larger and more established (early-2000s Mediterranean style), with many backing the golf course or featuring valley views.

For Bay Area buyers priced out of premium Santa Clara County neighborhoods, Eagle Ridge is increasingly the answer. Median home prices around $1.5M-$1.6M deliver homes with 2,200-5,000 sq ft of living space, large lots, and country club amenities — values that would cost $3M+ in Almaden or Silver Creek. The community is family-oriented with strong amenities (golf, tennis, pool, gym), and the schools (Las Animas Elementary, Solorsano Middle, Christopher High School) rate solid B/B+ — not Cupertino-tier, but serviceable.

The trade-off is commute. Gilroy is 35-40 miles south of San Jose; commutes to most Bay Area tech employers run 60-90+ minutes each way. The Gilroy Caltrain station provides a transit option but adds significant time. For buyers who can work from home, work in South County (Gilroy has its own employment base around outlets, agriculture, and industrial), or are willing to make the commute trade-off for space and value, Eagle Ridge is one of the most compelling new-construction options in the broader Bay Area. Wildfire risk awareness is needed in the western (gated) section near foothill open space.

A Saturday in Eagle Ridge

A day here

The coyote is gone by the time you get up, but you can see the tracks on the fairway behind your house. Coffee on the back patio — your home opens to the 12th green and the morning fog is still sitting on the 11th tee. Your 8-year-old has a tee time with your husband at 9; it's a par-three event for kids and everybody pretends nobody is scoring. You walk down the cart path with them for the first hole, turn back, meet your younger at the community pool. Midmorning, your 3-year-old is in the pool with half the block. You know most of the other moms. Midday, lunch at the club grill. The seniors' foursome comes in right after you and the laughs carry. Afternoon your husband takes the older one to Christmas Hill Park for a Scouts meeting; you pack a cooler for the evening and the younger one naps. Evening, the neighbors two doors down are hosting, as they do every other Saturday, and the community becomes something closer to a block party spread across three houses. Kids in the pool until after dark. Dinner is potluck. The stars out here, 35 miles south of San Jose, are a thing your kids have grown up with and your friends on the Peninsula still comment on every time they visit. You drive less than you thought you would. You laugh more.

What to know

Before you commit to this neighborhood

Here’s what locals will tell you

Long commutes to most Bay Area tech employers — 60-90+ minutes each way to Peninsula or even South Bay. Schools are B/B+ rated — solid but not top-tier. HOA dues plus optional country club membership adds significant monthly costs. Wildfire risk awareness needed in western (foothill) section. Limited walkability — car-dependent for everything outside the community. Less prestige than Bay Area luxury neighborhoods. Recent market softness has hit luxury harder than mid-tier.
